Talking Barça 5 – Athletic Bilbao, Hospitalet and England v Spain
In Talking Barça Podcast 5, we air our disagreements on the Athletic-Barça match particularly regarding Cesc Fàbregas’s performance, moan a little about Guardiola and agree that Piqué isn’t up to scratch at the moment. We go on to tear Ibrahimovic to shreds, discuss Barça’s match in the Copa del Rey against Hospitalet and Spain (or as we prefer ‘Barça and friends’) versus England.

Despite enjoying a great game of football between Athletic and Barça, coming away from San Mamés with only a point was somewhat disappointing.
There is some debate about the effectiveness of Cesc Fàbregas in the centre forward position. Both of us feel that the side would work better with the Arenys player coming in from a deeper second line of attack as a False 10, as this would allow him to link up with a more offensive Messi in the centre of the forward line.
The problem seems to be based on Pep Guardiola’s desire to ‘reinvent the wheel’. He has an offensive set up that works but is continually experimenting. Wouldn’t it be better if he stuck to a tried and tested formula?
Piqué’s performance was disappointing – particularly his involvement in Athletic’s second goal. He obviously has every right to be in a relationship with Shakira but when the media attention affects his ability to come up with the goods on the pitch, as Barça fans we have every right to question him.
What’s more when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was at Camp Nou, Piqué and the Swedish striker were close friends. In the light of Ibrahimovic’s absurdly exaggerated statements about his relationship with Guardiola, there is even more room for doubt.
Hospitalet v FC Barcelona

Barça’s next match is in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey against Segunda B side L’Hospitalet.
Currently second in Spain’s regional Third Division, the Llobregat club have just beaten Simon’s great love UE Sant Andreu at Feixa Llarga, so if they take a drubbing from Barça, he will be more than satisfied.
There are some doubts about the players available to Pep Guardiola as many of the lads from Barça B have been called up for Spain’s Under-21 International against England.
As the game will be shown on local television, this would have been a great opportunity to see the depth of FC Barcelona’s future talent in action
Spain v England

Spain’s match against England at Wembley calls our national identity into question.
We will both be supporting Spain or Barça and Friends as we irreverently prefer to call them. Why?
Well, it’s a question of familiarity and convenience. We are both Barça supporters and avid followers of La Liga so we’re much more familiar with the group of players who make up the Spain squad.
It’s also a question of enjoying an easy life. Having lived in Barcelona since the late-1980s, we’re both pretty integrated into life here and quite simply, having to go down the bar and support a different team ends up being a bit of a hassle.
Given the fact that Spain are currently the best international side in the world and England are pretty mediocre and hasve been for some time, we’d have to ba nuts not to support La Roja. We predict a 2-1 or 3-1 victory for Spain!

There’s a nice advantage to way FC Barcelona fixtures work out this year as the first Real Madrid game is away whilst the Barcelona-Madrid Clásico in Camp Nou is in Week 35 on April 22 – just as the seasons ‘make or break’ final straight reaches its peak. The FC Barcelona fixtures against last years the other top Spanish football clubs – Valencia CF, Villarreal CF, Atlético de Madrid and Athletic Club – are very evenly distributed throughout the 2011-12 Liga season apart from the tough test of having to play Valencia and Atlético on consecutive weeks.
It’s also nice to see that we’ll be playing Espanyol in the penultimate game of the 2011-12 Spanish Primera División season – so the Pericos will hopefully have congratulate the Barça for being Liga champions for the fourth consective season as the team runs out on to the Camp Nou pitch. |
If you want to buy tickets for FC Barcelona fixtures, you’ll find links to the FC Barcelona Tickets sales pages.
Please note that the Liga de Fútbol Profesional doesn’t confirm dates and kick-off times until two weeks before the game, so at the moment the fixture dates and prices are only provisional.

who think FC barcelona will be champs again and your top 5 FC Barcelona players?
I think FC barcelona will be champs again and my top 5 players
1.Lionel Messi
2.Thierry Henry
3.Victor Valdes
4.Xavi
5.Eric Abidal
well, it all depends on how well real madrid can get along (i.e. team chemistry). if ronaldo doesn’t complain about not getting the ball and benzema doesn’t complain about being over-shadowed then i think they will do great. but the thing is, i don’t feel that’s going to happen. not many pro teams have done well with this many great players on the same squad. FC Barca will win it again.
My Top 5:
1. Messi
2. Puyol
3. Iniesta
4. Henry
5. Alves
How do I buy tickets for an FC Barcelona game?
I live in Texas and I want tickets for a game in Barcelona in January.
i want to see a game in barcelona in january 2008
i’m from texas too, and when i went in march for the Classico i walked up to the stadium….i tried Ticketmaster and it didnt work….i thought you meant a match in spain….are they coming here?
What should i put as my final statement for my fc barcelona speech?
I’m doing a speech for my speech class today about my favorite soccer team Barcelona. the three main reasons why i like Barcelona are…their youth system, they have some of the best players of the world, and because of their many championships they have won. so i need a final statement to conclude my speech….any ideas?
that’s easy, conclude by stating how barcelona fc conquered the spanish league with a double and the europe to get a rare treble season.
How can I buy tickets for the FC barcelona vs atletico madrid game in october?
